My friend and I went to Charlie Chan's, just to treat outselves. What a wonderful evening we had. We ordered the set menu for £24.95 each (I think). This included a combo starter: Won Tons (very crispy indeed), Spring Rolls (absolutely delicious & cruncy, but the flavour not too vegetably), Ribs (there was no fat whatsoever and the meat just fell off the bone, no having to rip pieces of meat from one end of your mouth to the other), Breadcrumb covered prawns (I'm not a fan of prawns, but tried one of these, not greasy & very succulent). Finally, Seaweed (this had a slight sweet taste to it, complimented the slight saltiness of the ribs as they didn't have sauce). However, a pot of sweet 'n' sour sauce is there should you desire. We also ordered a side portion of prawn crackers, which were the biggest, crunchiest, most gorgeous tasting, non-greasy prawn crackers I have ever had. All of the starters were finger lickingly scrumpcious. We then had Duck for the middle course, cut up by the waiter in front of you, with spring onions, cucumber and hon sin sauce to wrap in a flour totilla. These were lovely too, only a few more tortilla's would have been nice. For main courese, we had a selection with the set menu. We had Stir-fried vegetables (not my favourite dish, a bit soggy & the sauce was just not for me), Chicken in Black Bean Sauce(very nice, again chicken very succulent indeed), Prawns in ginger and something else sauce (again, very tasty), Special Fried Rice (always a favourite of mine). Only by the time we'd eaten the starters and middle course, there was some room left for main course, but not a lot I might add. But the food was soooo nice, we took the rest home. Dessert was also included in the £24.95 price (that's 4 courses), banana pieces coated in batter with a yummy sticky sauce. The service was impecable also, you're never left waiting around, but you're not rushed to eat up either. Overall, my friend and I have arranged to eat at Charlie Chans at least once every 2 months. Hopefully, we'll be special guests soon and have our own table???? Definitely compliments to the chef(s). 5 STARS!
