I live in Dunmow and can confirm that the food in the Boote House is OK but the attitude of the staff is shocking. They have priced themselves as a top end Essex restaurant but the food is not much better than other restaurants at half the cost. On occasions when we've dared to take our children there we were treated like leppers. It's OK if you want an descent take away but dining in isn't a particularly nice experience.

Save your money! You could get this standard of food at any high street takeaway. The staff were rude and unhelpfull. The building is nice but dont let that fool you into taking part in the great Felsted "RIP OFF" there are far better places to eat. it seems they rely on their location.

I live in Felsted and have visited the Boote House in Felsted about three or four times in two years. I must admit that it is necessary to book, but the food is lovely and the staff always seem pleasant. The building is interesting, and the atmosphere is cosy. It always seems busy when I go by in the evening, possibly try lunch weekdays at the Flitch of Bacon in Little Dunmow instead.

I went to the the Boote House today (a Thursday) for lunch as I had heard good reports, however I arrived at 1pm on the dot to find no patrons and the surly staff tearing cloths from the tables creating a pile on the floor. When asked what I wanted (yes like that!) I asked for a table for two and was told they close at 2, and then she turned away. Oh, I suppose we could do something, she said after a hesitation, but by then I felt my patronage was better spent elsewhere. A very rude, surly and un-necessary attitude deprived them of my custom and I hope of yours too. Whatever happened to customer service?
