Wonderful little restaurant in a rather remote location but a warm welcome is guaranteed and the food is lovely. I had cajun salmon and it was fantastic. Portion sizes are spot on, I had room for dessert and the entire meal for 2 came to around £30. The decor is maybe a bit dated but it adds to the character, and the little placemats etc really suit the restaurant. Definitely not a bad word to say about The Poachers Rest, in fact I am off to phone and see if they have a table for myself and my partner this evening. Aberdeenshire is a wonderful area, the drive up to the restaurant is like a little wildlife show, owls, deer, buzzards - fantastic!! 10/10

Eating at the Poachers Rest, located in a tiny village on a quaint country road between Ellon and Collieston, is like taking a step back in time a couple of decades. The green placemats and carpet would not have looked out of place in a 1980’s Victoria Wood sketch and the bright lights would be more than functional on a TV set.Resisting the temptation to ask for two soups, Tempura King Prawns with a Sweet Chilli Dip was preferred and proved to be a more than adequate starter. For a main course the Leg of Lamb with Gravy was satisfactory, while the Pan Fried Chicken (stuffed with stilton and with a port sauce) was more cremated than fried. The Sherry Trifle could have been subjected to the trade description act as it seemed more a fruit trifle due to the lack of a taste of alcohol, while the Toffee Banoffee Pie seemed a few days old. The house red wine was a perfect accompaniment and chosen well. The staff were pleasant and helpful with ample time given between courses. Average starter price was £4:50 and main course was £8:50.Overall, a pleasant jaunt back in time that would attract a rating of 6/10.

I found this small family run Resturant very warm and inviting. There is a beer garden at the back of the resturant with a shoot ect. for the kids. So when they are fed up u can stillhave some quality time with the family outside. The food is homemade wich i love as most resturants all have frozen cheap produce now. I had the unusual grilled hadock with banana and mango chutney which was spot on. would recomend this pub for family 10/10 -- First Class
