I visited the Deep Mill Diner today for lunch with with my wife and two youung children. It was a very disappointing experience, both in terms of the service and the quality of food. The restaurant wasn't busy, but when we entered we were totally ignored by the two young waitresses. After waiting for a minute in vain to be welcomed and shown to a table we chose one ourselves and then set about carrying a high chair across the restaurant. Still we were ignored. The food was appalling. My steak and kidney pie (no doubt from a supermarket freezer cabinet) was cooked to a cinder and practically inedible. My wife's scampi wasn't much better and strangely her salad consisted mainly of lettuce stalks rather than leaves. My daughter had a raspberry milkshake which she barely touched. I tried it and it tasted like an extremely sweet syrup rather than a milkshake. When I paid the not inconsiderable bill, I asked the staff to tell the cook why we hadn't finished our lunch. I was met with blank stares and no hint of an apology or explantion. We showed ourselves out. I don't know whether our dreadful experience is typical. We shall not be going back!
