We had an lovely evening at the Phoenix this week. Food was excellent and plentiful - and was clearly not pre-packaged fare. Service was good. Price was about average for the area. I will be sure to return.

What a poor experience. Pretentious, overpriced (for what it turned out to be!) food prepared by a \"chef\" who thinks he\'s better than he is. The long waits between courses did not help and the restauarant was nowhere near full, so no excuses on that front. The only positive thing was the perfectly pleasant young waitress who seemed as embarrassed as we surprised by the quality of the food!

The Phoenix Inn is amazing, a million miles from the rubbish you get from normal pubs, especially the chains. Slightly more expensive but well worth it for the beautiful food, very well presented, and truly delicious. I wish more pubs were like this.

We went for a lovely evening with our friends where we enjoyed a delicious meal, starting with a chorizo and ciabatta starter which was some of the tastiest bread ever. We then had excellent main courses all of which were beautifully presented and delectable. The service was polite and friendly and the chef coped brilliantly with two special dietary requests. A great evening all round. Will be back soon!

I was quite amazed to read the previous review as I have been there several times in the last few months and can only commend the chef on doing amazing food at pub prices. Sunday lunch there is absolutely fabulous - I would highly recommend the lamb.(Booking in advance definitely required). We've also been for several meals in the evening and have had nothing but delicious food and good service. In fact I am having a birthday lunch there in a few weeks which I'm sure will also be really tasty.

There was a party of 9 of us went for a meal on Saturday for a birthday celebration. All seams good on entering the establishment then you are handed the menu… First you have a choice of 4-5 starters (none of which are “the norm” for a country pub). You then have to make a decision on the main course you would not think that it is that hard when there is such a small selection to choose from. Needless to say most people in the party had different choices. The only one that can be recommended was the fish and chips!! Steak – tough, (no steak knife provided for at least 10 minutes after the request), Lamb – fatty and over cooked, Duck – would have been nice if there was something accompanying it, Chicken – possibly ok if you could find it in the slop that it was served in. As you can imagine we did not want to take any chances on desert. Waiter was untrained and when he asked us what the meal was like and we politely told him, he stood there in silence for a few seconds and walked away, we assumed that he was advising the manager but no one appeared. It was not the waiters fault as he has not been trained how to deal with these situations, although I am sure that he will have a lot of practice working at the Phoenix Inn.
