Me and my partner decided that a nice meal out in Ledbury was in order last night so decided to book a table at the Olive tree, We mainly decided on this restaurant after hearing good things about the place and looked online at the menu and it seemed good and reasonably priced. So we got there at 7 and where greated and shown to our table we ordered a wine and a lager and lime but when we got out drinks they had brought me a cider and lime so that wasn't the best start. we decided to go for a bread starter and an anti pesto starter, This arrived in good time but was way over loaded with olive oil and actually made me feel unwell. Right on to the main, I went for the lasagne and my partner went for the salmon now after waiting an hour for the mains I was getting a bit grumpy. My lasagne was absolutely disgusting and I had to leave it, it was made using ground mince no layers of pasta and no cheese sauce. My partners fish was lovely and cooked perfect but the salad tasted like it was out of a bag with a few olives thrown in. Sadly overall a very disappointing meal and we where not the only ones complaining as other dinners where having an equally disappointing night. I will never go to this restaurant again and I will not be recommending it to anyone.

Just to confirm that not much has changed here. I'm a Ledbury resident and have been visiting the Olive Tree regularly for four years. By and large the food and service has been fine and I have brought family and colleagues here over the years. This evening, having waited 40 minutes since the starter for my main, made the unforgiveable mistake of politely enquiring if the main course was ready as the manager was passing. We were told quite rudely that we should be grateful they had seated us at all, that they knew what they were doing and we should stop "complaining" and just wait. Frankly, I've never been spoken to like that in a restaurant before and I cannot comprehend the arrogance and outright rudeness of the man to one of his regular customers. We complained on leaving but it was clear that the apologetic staff were not going to pass on our comments. We won't be visiting this restaurant again as it's quite expensive and there are better and friendlier places in Ledbury where the owners are actually pleased to see their customers and even try and make sure they have a pleasant evening. You might consider going elsewhere if you don't want to run the risk of having your evening ruined by the arrogant manager. I absolutely regret spending all the money I have lining this guy's pockets.

Yes I totally agree with and understand the customer who experienced bad service at The Olive Tree back in May 2007. My husband and I too visited the restaurant as we have done so many times previously. However, on our most recent visit May 2008, we were treated in very much the same way as previous customer. Manager was very arogant and had very little if at all any manners regarding customer service. We didn\'t rate the staff either who weren\'t very friendly. It\'s such a shame as the restaurant has so much potential and the food I hasten to say is gorgeous - shame I can\'t praise the staff or most important, the manager! Any potential customers just be warned!!!

We were very disappointed by the service at this restaurant. It had been recommended to us, and we booked a table while visiting Ledbury. We had to wait for ten minutes before being given drinks, and at this point asked to order our food. We were told by the waitress that we couldn't order food because the kitchen wasn't ready for us. Later on - still not being able to order food - we managed to get the attention of the restaurant owner, who not only told us that we still couldn't order, but rudely told us that this was a busy restaurant, and that we had only been waiting for 20 minutes, and that he would not take our order until the kitchen was ready. Eventually the original waitress took our order, and we stated that we were unhappy with the way that we had been treated, but she offered little in the way of apology, and we received no apology from the restaurant owner. The food eventually arrived 50 minutes after we had sat down. Lucikly the food was of reasonable standard when it finally did arrive. We were then rushed through our meal, and the staff brought us our bill and dealt with us immediately - just at the point when they wanted our money! Unfortunately the way that we were spoken to by the staff ruined our evening. We were almost made to feel guilty for wanting to order our food, and there was no sense of trying to apologise for the wait we had or for the way that we were spoken to. There is no excuse to be treated like this as a paying customer. I fully appreciate that sometimes on busy evenings there is a wait on food, but most professional restaurant owners would apologise for this, and keep customers informed of the wait, rather than make them feel that they are an inconvenience for expecting a meal! Therefore I would recommend that people avoid giving this restaurant custom.
