ANITA JOANNE MARDON - 11-06-2009
I have eaten at Grumpys on many occasions and never had a bad meal. From breakfast Lunch And Evening meals the service has always been good. Food excellent and in very good company with the owner Fin. I find a recent comment of him hovering around tables and sloppy wine service to be untrue . He is a very good business man and only wants his diners to be comfortable and well cared for as for the comment made about his decor one should have seen it 18 months ago when it had not been decorated for years. Shame on customers who cannot enjoy a nice establishment and good company stay in London if it so much nicer we love Grumpys and we like the changes Fin has made Anita j mardon
Disappointed Diner - 03-01-2009
This is billed as \'honest English food\', so the Chinese themed tablecloths and menus don\'t work. The attention to detail is poor, from the state of the toilets, to the sad and seriously badly refurbished decor. This could be forgiven if the food was any good, but it was mediocre. We went on a Saturday night with 4 adults and 2 children. The food choices were limited and, for the quality, expensive (£12-£16 for a main course). The portions were large, but that hardly makes up for the sorry state of the food. Sautee potatoes SWIMMING in oil, dry and luke warm veg, all served in mismatched cheap serving dishes. I\'d rather have smaller portions and better food. Oh, and 3 of the 6 orders had vital parts of the dish missing, eg a steak with no sauce (which we were charged for but couldn\'t be bothered to argue against) and 2 fish dishes missing hot butter sauce. It\'s the kind of English restaurant that I had hoped had died out in the 1980\'s. The service was painful. The owner just hung about, clearly annoying the waiting staff. Our drinks were served with half the wine spilt over the glasss and some into my lager! We had to ask for the wine to be put into clean glasses. I just had to drink my lager as it was. I think the staff were just making the best of a bad thing, though. In this price range, there are MUCH better dining options in the area.
