\"Having just moved back to Torbay after a decade in London, working in PR and eating out many times every week I was desperate to find a restaurant, here, that provided good food with friendly but not intrusive service. I have spent the summer eating all over Torquay, but have yet to find somewhere that I\'d go back to regularly and be able to take a wide variety of people, knowing they could enjoy it. It was by complete chance then that I stumbled on the hidden gem that is Steps Bistro, which I remember from years ago as a fairly good Italian where lots of stars from the Princess Theatre used to eat. The place though is a revelation if you want good traditional food, generous portions and wine that is high in quality and in value. The service is attentive without being \'in-your-face\' and on my first visit having left an umbrella I received a text from the owner alerting me to the fact - which was way beyond the call of duty. Needless to say I was quick to return, and among my party were my parents who were so impressed they e-mailed all their friends the following morning. If you are paying Steps a visit then you must order the most incredible potatoes I have ever tasted (I don\'t know what they are called but come with onions0), but don\'t order ice-cream unless you have a serious appetite - better still share. The menu certainly isn\'t 21st century, but then neither is the atmosphere and both are better for it. I couldn\'t think of anywhere better for a gossipy lunch or somewhere to really relax with friends while you order that extra glass of wine just because you deserve it.

Jasmin Rivers "I have never before in my years of eating out ever been inspired to write a letter of compliment, until now. I was introduced to Steps this week and was so impressed that I took my mother there for lunch 2 days later. On both occasions the food and service were consistently outstanding. It's not often one visits a restaurant that immediately hits all he right spots, i.e. lovely atmosphere, a truly genuine warm welcome, wonderful food beautifully presented and clean and efficiently run. Well done Rob, I hope your business goes on from strength to strength, I shall most certainly be recommending you and will be passing on your cards to all my friends and family, and my own customers when I open my shop.
