What to say about Pad Thai - Full of eastern promise but sadly lacking in the delivery. My partner and I came to the restaurant on a Saturday night. When we entered we were 'greeted' by Manta (whom we think is the restaurant owner) before being told that the only space was upstairs. Having been lead upstairs, we then discovered that the upstairs was cold. Still - no matter, we were happy. From here, things went downhill. Firstly, we remained upstairs, in the cold with no drinks or orders being taken for approximately 20 minutes. Eventually, someone came and suggested we move to another table (still upstairs) that might be warmer. Our drinks order was then taken. 10 - 15 minutes later drinks appear and (after another table move) a starter order is taken (apparently, the person taking our starter order couldn't take our whole order so we'd have to wait a while longer to order our mains). Another 20 minutes pass and then Manta returns and "asks" us to move tables again; apparently it is easier for them if they serve us downstairs. Carrying our own drinks, we now move downstairs and look forward to the food and the newly improved service. Sadly neither materialised. The starters eventually came but look like they had been purchased from the local Iceland before being re-heated in the microwave. Some more time passes then eventually the main course arrives. The main course wasn't too bad (we both had red curries) - certainly the best part of the whole "experience". Having had food, we then asked for the bill (by this time we'd been in the restaurant for over 1 hour and 40 minutes - not bad when there was only two of us having a starter and a main each and the restaurant had less than 30 covers!!!!). The bill arrived (after the obligatory wait) and a mystery charge which turned out to be a service charge had been added to the Bill. As we weren't happy, we asked for the service charge to be removed and only pay for the food / drinks. At this point, Manta was very vocal in telling us how we were the only customers tonight not to be happy and how she'd done us a favour by finding us a table (on that level she'd done us a lot more than a favour, she'd found us 4 tables after all!!!). Would I recommend it? Food is, er, OK but the service badly let's the acceptable food down.
